NEW YORK, FLORHAM PARK — Mound Cotton, a leading law firm representing insurance companies, announced today that Guyon Knight joined the New York office as a partner. Guyon represents insurers and reinsurers in high-stakes coverage and bad faith disputes and  regularly advises clients across the country on complex and high-visibility disputes, particularly ones involving novel issues of substantive and procedural law. His extensive litigation and arbitration experience extends to financial products, complex contracts, class actions, trademarks, trade secrets, trusts and probate, and the False Claims Act.

Before joining Mound Cotton, Guyon served as a law clerk for Judge Sidney H. Stein of the Southern District of New York and Judge Eric L. Clay of the Sixth Circuit, and worked in the New York offices of Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan LLP and McDermott Will & Emery LLP, where he was a partner in the litigation group. He is ranked by Legal 500 as a recommended lawyer for advising insurers, and by International Financial Law Review as a Rising Star Awards Americas, Insurance and Reinsurance winner.

Guyon graduated from Fordham University School of Law, with a JD, Order of the Coif. He also earned a MSt. in Historical Research from Oxford University, and an AB, with honors, in Medieval Studies from University of Chicago. He is also a Ph.D candidate in History at Yale University. He is admitted to the New York Bar, as well as the US Supreme Court, and the US Courts of Appeals for the Second Circuit, Ninth Circuit, Tenth Circuit, and the US District Courts for the Southern District of New York, Eastern District of New York, and Eastern District of Michigan.

The firm also welcomed special counsel, Adam Alster. Adam represents insurance companies in complex first and third party coverage matters. He handles coverage litigation involving many types of insurance policies, such as property, commercial general liability, environmental, errors and omissions, directors and officers, cyber, professional liability, construction, and auto, as well as environmental and mass tort claims, including claims involving asbestos and other toxins and chemicals.

He has also handled complex property insurance litigation involving difficult construction-related issues. Adam regularly provides legal advice and counsel to insurers in the pre-litigation stages of claims and has experience in subrogation actions on behalf of insurers and policyholders, as well as experience defending companies and individuals in commercial, class action, and mass-tort litigation.

Adam received his J.D. from Rutgers University School of Law, and his B.A. from Rutgers University. He is admitted to the New York and New Jersey Bars, and is admitted to practice before the United States District Courts for the District of New Jersey, Southern District of New York, and Eastern District of New York, and is permitted to appear before the U.S. Second Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Third Circuit Court of Appeals. Adam has also appeared as counsel pro hac vice in court proceedings in other states, including Illinois and Florida. Prior to joining Mound Cotton, Adam worked at White and Williams LLP, McCarter & English LLP, where he represented policyholders in insurance coverage actions, and Day Pitney LLP.  He also spent one year working in-house at environmental insurer, Berkley Environmental.
