Colleen Martindale
Colleen Martindale is Special Counsel at Mound Cotton. She has been practicing for more than 20 years in the areas of healthcare liability and complex insurance coverage. She currently serves as a Manager in the firm’s Healthcare Liability Department, where she supervises Associates in litigation management, claims handling, and coverage analysis. Her practice includes advising Underwriters at Lloyd’s of London, insurance companies, and risk retention groups on coverage issues, drafting policy wordings, and leading high-stakes negotiations. She also oversees the defense of cases nationwide by coordinating with local counsel in matters involving healthcare providers and facilities across multiple disciplines. In addition, she represents clients and insureds at mediations and settlement conferences in multimillion-dollar cases and conducts comprehensive on-site and remote claims audits of insurance companies and hospital systems. Colleen is routinely recognized for her ability to achieve favorable outcomes for insureds while helping insurers and healthcare organizations mitigate risk and control costs.
Before joining Mound Cotton, Colleen was Senior Counsel at Mendes & Mount LLP, where she advised Lloyd’s Underwriters on professional and general liability matters, represented insurers at mediations across multiple jurisdictions, conducted nationwide claims audits, and managed pharmaceutical class action exposures on behalf of excess insurance carriers. She previously practiced at Hughes Hubbard & Reed LLP, representing Pfizer, Inc. and Merck & Co., Inc. in multijurisdictional and international product liability litigation and developing experience in federal pharmaceutical regulatory matters. During this time, she also completed a secondment with the New York City Attorney General’s Office, Division of Torts, where she represented the City of New York and conducted depositions of fact and expert witnesses. In addition, she provided pro bono legal assistance to indigent individuals in housing court and family court cases. Colleen began her career as an Associate at Mendes & Mount LLP, representing Lloyd’s of London syndicates in professional liability cases and auditing medical malpractice claims against hospitals.
Colleen earned her J.D. from St. John’s University School of Law, where she was a member of the Mock Trial Honor Society, co-recipient of the Best Team Award in the Criminal Law Trial Competition, and recipient of a Summer Public Interest Fellowship through which she volunteered with Her Justice in the Bronx, providing legal assistance to victims of domestic violence. She received her B.A. in Environmental Studies from the University of Vermont. She is admitted to the New York Bar and is based in the firm’s California office.
